What to do if you have been injured in an automobile-accident?

If you have been seriously injured or have soft-tissue injuries (e.g. sprains/strains, no broken bones) caused by an automobile-accident, you should seek medical treatment immediately. An ambulance may be called if there is substantial damage to the vehicles involved in the accident.  Call the police so that you can receive prompt medical treatment and insurance information is obtained.

Some great advice from one of our colleagues, Atlanta Auto Accident Lawyer Laurie Robbins is that “because the symptoms of some injuries may not be immediately obvious following a car accident, it’s critical to undergo evaluation by medical personnel regardless of whether or not you believe you are hurt.”

If you can walk around and look at the damage, then take as many pictures as you can of the vehicles and of the accident scene. If you unable to take pictures, then have someone take pictures on your behalf.  Also, take pictures of your injuries. Photographs are extremely helpful to your personal injury claim. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.

After you have been involved in an automobile accident, you may be contacted by the at-fault driver’s insurance company. The insurance company may want to take a recorded statement from you. They may send you documents in the mail to sign. It is important that you are aware of your rights and understand what you are saying to and giving to the insurance companies!
